WHAT is the point of Lancashire County Council pandering to the Government's targets for 'green' energy by looking at plonking hundreds of wind turbines on school fields and spare land across the county -- when each and every one will generate a costly planning row?

For as much as these giant windmills have their supporters, they have as many passionate opponents who see them as unsightly eyesores.

Would it not do much more for the reduction of greenhouse gasses from power stations if instead of considering hundreds more turbines, the county gave every household a low-energy light bulb?

It would certainly have a greater environmental impact and greater uptake than its free compost bins which not everyone wants or has room for.
