A MAN attacked a car belonging to his former partner's mother because she had told police that he had been driving while disqualified.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Winston Holt used a concrete slab to smash every window in the vehicle and cause such extensive damage that the vehicle was written off by the insurance company.

Holt, 27, of Accrington Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, witness intimidation and two offences of driving while disqualified. He was made subject to a rehabilitation order for 12 months ordered to pay £600 compensation for the car and fined £800 with £190 costs.

Mike Cunningham, prosecuting, said Holt had previously had a relationship Katie Fisher's sister. He had been stopped for driving while disqualified and blamed Miss Fisher's mother for giving information to the police. In March last year Miss Fisher was at home when her brother came downstairs and said their mother's boyfriend had phoned to say he had argued with Holt who had said he was going round to "smash the house in".

"When she looked out of the window she saw Holt using a concrete slab to smash the window's of her mother's car," said Mr Cunningham. "All the windows were smashed and the car was extensively damaged, to the extent that it was deemed a write off."

Debbie Morgan, defending, said her client had been convicted in his absence of the damage and intimidation charges and he will be appealing against the convictions.
