WOMEN from Preston and South Ribble were trying their hand at everything from henna painting to flower craft on Saturday, in recognition of International Women's Day.

Workshops included embroidery, face painting and Indian head massage at the Foxton Centre, Knowsley Street, Avenham, giving plenty of opportunity for women to learn a new skill.

Mayoresses, Wyn Dillon and Councillor Jean Al Serraj, opened the event and visitors were then welcomed with a stick dance routine.

International cuisine was available throughout the day and cooking demonstrations to suit most appetites, with a lunch served at 1pm.

On a lighter note, comedians had people in stitches as they delivered witty one-liners.

Creativity was flowing with arts and crafts workshops set up by Preston College and children played in the creche.

For those in need of pampering, beauty treatments were available, alongside a host of international dance and colourful costumes.

Akwinder Kaur, from the Pukar Centre, performed Asian Dance following in the footsteps of previous routines in belly dance, African dance and rock 'n' roll.

The event, which was free, was organised by Preston Women's Task Group and provided plenty of networking opportunities for community groups.
