I LIED about my age and I just don't how I to deal with it. I am three years older than my husband but I never actually told him or his family when they asked for the rishta.

It was an arranged marriage but before we got married they assumed I was the same age as him. And when they asked my mum she agreed. I didn't say anything either as things had progressed so much. I

t was only when the marriage certificate was being signed did one of his relatives spot my age. He thankfully didn't say anything.

However, five months into the marriage he found my driving licence. I told him it was a mistake but then he spoke to the relative I mentioned earlier and the atmosphere at my in-laws house has become very strange since.

My mother-in-law has also found out and makes no secret of the fact she thinks I am too old for her son and age does matter.

I am just so upset and don't know who to turn to.

MASSI SAYS,

There is nothing more important than the being honest with people and in this case I feel you could avoided the whole heartache if you had just told the truth.

As our families go I know full well what they will be thinking. They probably think your whole 'Khandhan' (extended family) was in on it.

You sound like a good person. I can't believe nobody realised before the marriage but what is done is done. I think you need to talk to your husband and although he's going to have his family telling him otherwise, I believe he will see sense.

If everything else has been alright between you I don't see why you can't get over this. At the end of the day you married him and not members of his family (despite what some people might say). Age shouldn't be an issue between two people and I think if your husband truly wants to spend the rest of your life with you he should realise that.

I think relationships between your family and your in-laws will be strained but as long you and husband remain happy I don't think they can break that bond.
