TO say I was extremely annoyed to read the outpourings of Angry Resident (Your Letters February 21) is an understatement.

Clearly he or she have their own means of transport otherwise they would not call for withdrawal of a bus service which has been operational in the Wood Street area for many years.

There was no obvious concern for the safety of children and the elderly. A need for transportation near to where they live is paramount. To deny those who totally rely on public transport is typical of the "I'm alright Jack" attitude which personifies the society we have become.

Damage to properties is mainly due to heavily ladened articulated traffic using the narrow roadway. Excessive parking is another problem, as even the pavement areas are no longer for the sole use of pedestrians.

However, if one chooses to live within an industrial area and near to a shopping precinct, one has to accept there will be an influx of traffic using the shortest routes available.

The sooner the proposed speed limit is put in place the better for all concerned.
