MEMBERS of Accrington Stanley's newest supporters' club branch were set to lend their support to the team's civic reception today.

The club is to be honoured with a special reception at Accrington Town Hall, and at least two members of the Omagh supporters' club were hoping be there to celebrate.

The event will mark the team's promotion from the Unibond League to the Conference League, and they so bowled over by the Omargh men's support they have arranged to give them a day to remember, meeting players and visiting the ground before joining the celebrations.

Secretary Paddy Campbell started the club in March after being asked by a friend to find an Accrington Stanley shirt.

"Accrington Stanley is famous and people know their name from the milk commercial," he said.

"The barman in our local talked about getting a shirt, so I searched the internet. When it arrived about six others asked me to get them one. It snowballed.

"They're genuine fans. One of the lad's uncles is from Accrington and another has a brother-in-law from the town.

"I sent them a congratulation letter when they got promoted.

"We all support different teams like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool but this is the one thing we do together, the one thing we won't argue about."

The group will meet formally for the first time on Friday, May 30.

Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "It's great news of our civic reception has spread far and wide. It should be a great occasion and we look forward to seeing them."
