A MESSAGE of hope from a primary school will be delivered to a deprived South African school this summer.
After-school club leader at Peel Brow Primary in Ramsbottom, Mrs Noelene Searles, will be travelling to the country later this month, taking with her the fund-raising efforts of the Ramsbottom community and the message One World One Future from the pupils.
Mrs Searles, who lives in Whalley Road, Shuttleworth, said: "I will be taking £379. with me to give to the school. This is on top of the £200 we sent earlier this year.
"I also have a lot of questions, set by children, to ask once I get over there."
Mrs Searles, with the backing of Peel Brow Primary, set up the One World One Future project after visiting Magalelagase Primary School in Johannesburg in 2001, as part of a trip to see her daughter Lynne Cheshire who lives in South Africa.
She recalled: "It was heartbreaking to see the school. The staff were teaching 600 children, from the age of seven with very few materials. It was a very emotional experience.
"I just thought the people of Ramsbottom could do something. "
In the last 12 months, Mrs Searles has organised a variety of fund-raising events, including a number of popular champagne breakfasts with the support of The Good Samaritan pub in Ramsbottom.
