BURY'S South's Golf Croquet team were visited by Culcheth on Saturday.

In the Doubles the visitors performed well and were ahead by four games to two at lunch.

In the Singles games the home players were more successful. Len Forkin won all four of his games, while Donald Lockett won three.

Colleen Forkin and David Dean broke even on the day with two wins apiece, so the match result was a win by thirteen games to nine.

On Sunday the Short Croquet squad were visited by Fylde. In the opening round all four of the home players (Barbara and Geoff Young, Jean Hargreaves and Malcolm Hardman) won. This lead was not maintained when in round two the seasiders beat all but Geoff, so lunch was taken with a slim lead.

In the third session Geoff and Jean won, to leave a close position. In the last round, when each person played their opposite number in team ranking things looked sticky when three of the visitors won but Barbara, in the last game to finish, narrowly beat the Fylde number one to produce an overall draw at eight games each.
