MILLION pound man Ian Moore has wasted no time getting on the goal trail in pre-season.

The pacy Clarets striker already has four goals to his name in just five pre-season friendlies, the latest coming with a smart finish in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with near neighbours Accrington Stanley.

Moore kicked off his season in style in the Isle of Man with a smart overhead kick in the 4-1 defeat to Wrexham.

And the rejuvenated striker then hit a deadly double in the last Saturday's stunning 4-2 victory over Leeds.

Moore unfortunately signs off against Birmingham tomorrow before starting a three-match ban that will rule him out of the opening week of the new season.

Moore misses the First Division curtain-raiser against Crystal Palace, the trip to West Brom the following weekend and the Carling Cup tie at Chesterfield sandwiched in between.

But the former Stockport and Nottingham Forest hitman, who notched 11 goals for the Clarets last term, is counting his blessings that the hectic early schedule means he will only be sidelined for seven days.

He said: "I'm suspended for the first three games, but luckily that is only a week with the cup games.

"I've been pleased with my form so far. I've been playing on the wide right, which is something I've had to get used to. But it was nice to start with a goal (against Wrexham) and I've got another few since, so things are going quite well.

"It's always been a part of my game where I run at defenders and I'm making the most of it at the moment."

The Clarets have suffered a further pre-season blow with the news Gareth Taylor will miss at least the opening league game following the eye injury sustained against Leeds last weekend.

That could leave just Robbie Blake as the only first-choice striker fit to start the campaign.

And Moore is hoping rangy targetman Taylor can return sooner, rather than later, to leave manager Stan Ternent spoilt for choice when his own suspension ends.

He added: "Losing Gareth is a big blow. He's been a big part of our success over the last couple of seasons, so we are going to miss him a lot.

"But anyone who comes in has a job to do and I'm sure they will do it. Looking at the lads this is as fit as they have ever been at the start of the season, so we are all looking forward to the start."

A win over Birmingham at Turf Moor tomorrow (1pm) and Clarets fans will be feeling the same way.
