THE Phoenix Club's king of the fibbers, Kenny Senior, will be among the stars appearing at a day of music and laughter in Radcliffe town centre on Saturday.

The first Radcliffe Festival is being staged at the bandstand in the town centre and funnyman Archie Kelly, who plays "Billy Liar" character Kenny in Peter Kay's hit show Phoenix Nights, will be presenting his stand-up and impressions act.

Also appearing at the free event are Seventies glam rockers T-Rex, featuring original member Paul Fenton and Alan Silson from Smokie, who are set to play their first gig in the area since the decade of platform shoes and fright wigs.

The original glitterati will be joined by punk-new wave legend Wreckless Eric, who has played with the late Ian Dury of Blockheads fame among others.

Ged Kelly, director of The Met in Bury and organiser of the festival, said: "I am delighted to be able to bring live entertainment into the heart of Radcliffe and am looking forward to a great day. There's definitely something for everyone, from old music to new music to comedy, and we hope to be able to make the Radcliffe Festival a regular event."

The show runs from noon until 10pm, and will also feature a variety of top local talent, including indie rockers, vocal groups, R&B acts, rappers and dancers.

And young rappers, DJs and singers from Bury will be putting into practice what they have learnt on recent workshops, run by the Greater Manchester Music Action Zone (GMMAZ).

Performers include an 18-year-old female MC and a 14-year-old DJ. Singer Maria Marcel, aged 24, from Oldham has been coaching the youngsters over the past six weeks.

Tower FM breakfast show DJ Paul Fairclough will share compering duties with Blackburn comedian Martin Cassidy.
