CAMPAIGNERS aiming to bring Great Harwood into the 21st century toasted their success after reaching the required benchmark for faster Internet connection.

British Telecom insisted on having 250 names registered before it would install Broadband in the area and the target was hit last week.

Great Harwood should now be connected to the high-speed Internet service in two to three months time.

Mark Hope, 30, of Mercer Drive, Great Harwood, started the campaign to get people to sign up in June. He runs software company MS Hope Ltd, from his home and from offices in Clayton-le-Moors Industrial Park.

Broadband works by splitting the existing telephone line signal into two, one for voice and the other for data. and is up to nine times faster than a regular dial in service.

Mark said: "It's good news. We've brought forward the installation date by months and now the whole of Great Harwood will be able to benefit."
