STORE bosses are reviewing security after hundreds of CDs, DVDs and PlayStation games were stolen.

Sainsbury's, Hardman Way, Darwen, was targeted, when four balaclava-clad raiders broke in through the car park entrance.

DC Dave Braithwaite of Darwen CID said: "We believe they travelled to the store in a stolen blue Ford Focus, which we think was stolen from Bolton on Wednesday.

"They parked it outside the front doors and forced the door open with a crow-bar."

Burglars then made off with a large number of chart CDs, DVDs and some of the latest PlayStation games at 1am on Thursday morning.

DC Braithwaite added: "As yet we do not know where they came from or in which direction they made off, so we are asking for any witnesses who might have seen anything to come forward."

The total cost of the goods stolen is not yet known but a Sainsbury's worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said a stock check was being carried out..

Police, who were called to the store by a nbeighbour who heard noises, believe the burglar alarm was not activated by the break-in.

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "We can confirm that a burglary took place at 1am on Thursday morning and the police are now investigating the incident.

"We take this very seriously and are reviewing the security measures at the Darwen store.

"We can't say anything more at this stage."

Brief descriptions were given of three of the four offenders. The first was described as 5ft 6in, wearing a faded, light-blue denim jacket with dark-coloured trousers and dark-blue shoes.

The second was wearing a green waterproof jacket and the third was in dark clothing. All four wore black balaclavas over their faces.
