A BURNLEY man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for drug offences following an undercover police operation to crack down on drug dealers in the town.

Craig Brown, 30, of Robinson Street was committed to Preston Crown Court for sentence after pleading guilty to four offences of supplying a Class A drug.

Judith McCullough, prosecuting, told the court the crimes took place in March this year during Operation Nimrod in which undercover police officers made "test purchases" to target dealers of Class A drugs.

She said an undercover officer was sold a bag of heroin worth £10 after being directed to a house on Robinson Street.

Further purchases were made by the officer on March 14th, 18th and 21st.

Mr Mohammed Nawaz, defending, said Brown had pleaded guilty the day after his arrest. The offences had taken place over a short period of time.

Mr Nawaz said Brown, who had not served a custodial sentence before, had tried to kick his drugs habit.

An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
