RESIDENTS in Colne and Brierfield are being urged to help shape the future of their towns by taking part in two days of walkabouts next week.

The two walkabout days, in Brierfield on Wednesday, and Colne, will see consultants employed by Pendle Council listening to local people's views on how both towns should be regenerated.

Demolition projects and estate refurbishments are two options under consideration.

The projects will be part of the Elevate scheme, the housing market renewal pathfinder for East Lancashire, which will receive a share of the £500million government cash available to nine areas across the country. It will be used to improve towns over the next 15 years.

Alan Davies, leader of Pendle Council, said: "Please remember that this is about your towns and your views are being genuinely sought. I urge residents to get involved in these walkabout events and ensure their views are heard and incorporated into the long term plan. Don't miss this chance."

Both days have a morning and an afternoon session and people are welcome to stay for both sessions.

The first walkabout for Brierfield will start at 9.30am on Wednesday at Brierfield Community Centre, in Burnley Road, with an afternoon session starting at 2.30pm.

The walkabout day for Colne will begin at 9.30am on Thursday followed by another session at 2.30pm and will set off from the council chamber at Colne Town Hall.

Those attending will be invited to take to the streets to walk around parts of their respective towns and to discuss issues they face.
