THE wife of a former chief sub-editor of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, has died aged 86.

Rose Child met her husband Harry, who spent nearly half a century in local newspapers, when she worked as a telephonist at the Telegraph in the 1930s.

The pair were active in their local community in Mellor where they lived.

She was a member of the Mothers' Union, senior citizens' group and St James's cubs.

Harry began his career in 1929 when he joined the Burnley office of the then Northern Daily Telegraph.

In 1960, he was appointed chief sub-editor of the newly-named Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

The couple had three sons, David, Martin and Andrew, and four grandchildren.
