Doncaster Dragons 18 Leigh Centurions 46 by Mike Hulme
THE Centurions took another massive step towards securing a top two finish as the National League One season enters the home straight.
With just three games to go, Leigh and Salford remain two points clear of Rochdale, with the top trio now ten points clear of the rest.
At times against injury-hit Doncaster, Leigh looked more than capable of making a significant dent in Salford's points difference advantage but they finished carelessly at times and in the end let the Dragons off lightly.
Coach Paul Terzis agreed: "Our execution wasn't as clinical as we would have liked. We created plenty but to only score nine tries is a little disappointing," he admitted.
A landslide victory was on the cards as Leigh raced into a 14-0 lead after just 16 minutes. An opening salvo of tries from Sean Richardson, Dave Bradbury and Tommy Martyn had the Dragons on the ropes.
But the youthful home side capitalised on some unsatisfactory defending the close the gap to just two points at the break.
The second half was totally dominated by Leigh who eased their worries in the 46th minute when Alan Hadcroft made all the running for Neil Turley to scamper away to the posts.
Prop Bradbury picked up his second; top scorer Damian Munro raced 90 metres after intercepting and recent capture Danny Halliwell got over in the corner for his first for Leigh.
Two more late tries followed, with former Dragon Dale Cardoza creating Halliwell's second try before rounding off the scoring himself.
