THERE were more than 250 entries in the annual Foulridge Horticultural Show providing an interesting and colourful display for villagers.

Judges had their work cut out to choose the winners in categories that included flower arranging, vegetables and baking.

John Davies, who is on the show's organising committee, was delighted.

He said: "It was a really superb day. The event was very well supported, both in terms of the number of entries we had and the number of people who came to visit the village hall.

"We had a full house for most of the day."

He said the committee was also thrilled at the number of novices and the number of children who entered this year, which was well up on last year.

The trophy winners in the adult classes were: craft - Brenda Davies; jams and preserves - Rosie Thompson; flower arranging - Mary Britcliffe; baking - Janet Willson; photography - David Ingham; best vegetable - Sally Whittaker; most points in the vegetable section - Raymond Whalley; best flower - Harry Wells; most points in the flower section - Harry Wells; overall winner of the Foulridge Horticultural Cup - Rosie Thompson.

In the children's classes the winners were as follows: baking - Kirsty McGoogon; photography - Fern Gleeson; and children's overall prize - Miranda Badminton.
