DARWEN got their NWCL Division Two campaign off to a flying start with a five-star performance at Flixton.

Neil Almond opened the scoring for Darwen on 20 minutes then Matt Anderton rose unmarked to head home a Jimmy Khan corner and a Dennis Hill tap-in made it 3-0 soon after.

Darwen failed to clear a corner at the start of the second half allowing Stuart Walker to score before Wayne Scott reduced the deficit further.

Goals from Hill and Andy Walsh put the game beyond doubt however a late Jimmy Khan sending off, along with Flixton player Gary Brickhill, marred a fine opening day victory for Darwen.
