RICARDO Fuller continued his comeback from injury with his first goal of the season - scored off his head.
He connected with Graham Alexander's corner in the 87th minute to nudge Preston in front at the JJB Stadium.
But, as last Saturday, the lead was short-lived. Within 60 seconds, newly-promoted Wigan - playing their first home tie of the season - were on level terms.
Substitute Gary Teale roared down the right channel before sending a cross into the area, which Lee McCulloch powered home.
McCulloch's goal served to prove that if you aim at goal often enough, you will eventually score. It was only through heroics from Michael Jackson and Chris Lucketti that Wigan had not taken an earlier lead.
But Preston too had their chances, with Ricardo Fuller hitting the inside of the upright for the second time this week - only to see the ball come bouncing back out again.
WIGAN... 1 PNE... 1
