Traffic police are appealing for witnesses to three hit-and-run road accidents in the borough.

Two of the accidents involved stolen cars.

The first incident happened at 10.40am on Friday (Aug 15), at the junction of Hamilton Road and Higher Lane, Whitefield, when a Honda Legend stolen from Salford smashed into a VW Polo driven by a 25-year-old woman from Whitefield. The Honda failed to stop and was last seen being driven toward Ringley Road.

The driver of the Polo was not injured.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday (Aug 17), another female motorist and her passenger escaped injury when her Vauxhall Astra car was clipped by a vehicle which emerged from a side street in Lowther Road, Prestwich. The car, which was only described as B registered, failed to stop.

Also on Sunday, this time at 7am, a Ford Sierra Sapphire lost control on Butterstile Lane, Prestwich, and ploughed into a lamppost. The stolen car was later found abandoned and is now being examined by forensic scientists.

Anyone who witnessed any of the three incidents should contact Bury Traffic Unit on 856 8072.
