A MAN who abused a policewoman was fed up of being the "wrong man," a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard that John Patrick Wearden, 34, looked like his brother Paul, who police were looking for to arrest.

Wearden, of Scotts Terrace, Burnley, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was granted a 12-months conditional discharge.

The court was told the policewoman saw the defendant on a mountain bike approaching youths and asked him what was wrong. He swore at her.

Later, she came across Wearden again, asked him what the earlier incident was about and he clenched his fists and moved his bike towards her.

John Greenwood, defending, said at the time Paul Wearden had warrants outstanding.

Police had raided addresses several times trying to arrest Wearden, thinking he was his brother.

The policewoman thought he was Paul Wearden. Mr Greenwood went on: " He simply got sick of it."
