THREE focus groups have been set up as part of the Cliviger Challenge, to look at different aspects of life in the parish.

All the groups will be meeting in the next week or so to consider what the members think is required to improve their particular area of interest.

The community facilities group will meet tomorrow. The other groups will cover transport and environment, and health and education. During the Challenge week each group will present their ideas at consultation meetings in the village hall.

THE Parish Council has responded strongly to suggestions that the Cliviger Challenge is some kind of politically-motivated exercise devised by Burnley Council.

They have stressed it is a totally community-led, non political project, which aims to improve life in Cliviger for all residents, and is fully supported by the parish council and local community groups.

THE annual LSR Cliviger 6 road race was held last Sunday. Starting from Mount Lane sports field, 148 runners enjoyed the slightly cooler, damp conditions on the day, and all completed the course through Red Lees and Towneley then back via Burnley Road and Red Lees Road to finish in Mount Crescent.

Matt Moorhouse was first over the line, in 32 minutes 3 seconds, with Mark Brown and Neil Tattersall second and third.

The organisers would like to thank the race sponsors, Shanks Deerplay Landfill, and D & D Motors, for their support. The event raised almost £600 for CRaCA funds.
