A DRINK driver who didn't stop for police was almost twice the legal drink limit, Burnley magistrates heard.

The court was told how Damien Lee Carr, 25, went through a junction without stopping, narrowly missed another car but then told police he had not been driving.

Carr, of Green Road, Colne, admitted driving with excess alcohol and driving without due care and attention. He was fined £150, banned for 18 months and told to pay £60 costs.

Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, told the court the defendant smelled of drink but was unable to provide a roadside breath test.

He was taken to the police station, where the lower of two tests revealed 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath -- the legal limit being 35.

John Rusius, defending, said Carr had been to a friend's house and accepted he had had a drink. He felt fine and didn't believe he was over the limit.

He dropped a friend off in Colne and was on the way home when the police officer became 'curious,' about his movements.
