ORGANISERS of this weekend's Darwen's Tower Trudge have planned a low-level route in case of rain on the day of their eight-mile charity walk.

One-hundred trudgers are expected to walk over the moors this Sunday, to raise money for a variety of charities.

The Tower Trudge, organised by Darwen Rotary Club, attracts people from across the county but organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather.

Gil Riley from Darwen Rotary, said: "We don't get a lot of people signing up before the event. More often than not they turn up on the day.

"If it's good weather we can expect anything up to 100 people but if the weather's against us it could be less. We have a special route planned if it rains."

Walkers should meet at the Olde England Kiosk at Sunnyhurst Wood at 9am on Sunday.

Application and sponsorship forms are available from Darwen Law Chambers, Halifax Building Society and Mark Graham Hairdressers in Darwen.
