A TRANSSEXUAL who tried to rape a Bury woman in Prestwich just five days after being released for the manslaughter of his lover has been jailed for life at Bolton Crown Court.
Karen Lawson, aged 21, of no fixed address, who previously went by the name of Mark Jones, attacked the woman in the shop, on October 19 last year forcing her on to the floor.
Following the attack, Lawson went on the run but handed herself into police in Kent later that month.
The victim, from Bury, was left with minor injuries and has since had nightmares. Lawson pleaded guilty to the rape attempt.
The attack came just five days after Lawson had been freed on licence after serving half of a five-year sentence for manslaughter at a male young offenders institution.
In 2001, Lawson had been sentenced after pleading guilty to strangling her former lover, Michael Cutler, when he reneged on an agreement to pay for her sex change operation.
