SOME things really do never change! Every year on both sides of the Atlantic there are reports after reports on exam results, analysing trends, job markets for graduates.

Exams are important, but not the end of the world. I did badly in my A-levels and remember being really upset about it. That was a really long walk back from school.

But that was also the last time I really worried about anything because it wasn't the end of the world. My journey had just started.

Teenagers need to realise the really important things -- personality, respect, family life, having kids, being just a decent person, being happy -- not just the As, Bs and Cs. I'm a former grammar school pupil but I never look at my son's and daughter's marks. I look at the teacher's comments -- tells me what I need to know.

People need to realise that life is a marathon, not a 100-metre sprint, so enjoy it through each decade and don't think a 'B' or a 'C' is the end of the world or an 'A' is going to make you any happier.
