THREE defeats from the first three games is hardly the start Andy Preece was looking for writes Phil Thorp

But the Bury manager won't be railroaded into making panic measures ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend schedule.

The Shakers travel to Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday before taking on Lincoln City at Gigg Lane on Bank Holiday Monday and the boss is hoping hard work on the training ground this week will make it a profitable three days.

And although the new 4-4-2 formation that the club have started the season with has yet to yield as much as a draw Preece refuses to make changes for changes sake.

"It's two games gone, another 44 to go and there is nothing won or lost at this stage," he explained.

"It's not until ten games into the season that the league table begins to take shape.

"That said, we desperately want to put some points on the board and sooner rather than later.

"We have a week to have a good look at things and make sure we're right for the two games over the Bank Holiday when there's the chance to pick up six points.

"There's no need for us to panic. Clearly there are certain things in our play that need sorting out and we'll leave no stone unturned to put it right."

The manager's options haven't been helped by three injuries picked up during the 3-2 home defeat by Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Midfielder George Clegg looks like being out for weeks with a medial ligament problem while striker Chris Porter (sprained ankle) and defender Danny Swailes (injured toes) are already doubts for the Kidderminster game.

"We have to wait until we get the results of the scan to see exactly how long Cleggy will be out," added Preece.

"And while Chris's ankle is very swollen and Danny is in some pain they may make the Kidderminster game. We'll leave it as late as possible for them to recover."

Midfielder Terry Dunfield is still a few weeks off match action while he recovers from his summer shoulder operation but there's better news for Paul O'Shaughnessy (foot ligaments) who may get a run out in the reserves at Carlisle United on Wednesday.

Preece - whose second half goal at the weekend makes him the club's early leading scorer with two - reckons a bad start against Scunthorpe was his team's undoing.

"It's really hard to pick up and change the momentum of the game when you start as badly as we did," he said.

"There weren't too many positives to take from the game, only the fact that we scored two goals.

"We need to be more disciplined and think about our individual jobs.

"Our games are a bit too much end-to-end for me at the minute and although we are scoring there are too many chances being created at the other end."
