A 14-YEAR-OLD girl who was involved in a car crash after being driven away from her foster carers' house by her father has died.

Sean Brown, 35, appeared before Blackburn magistrates yesterday charged with the attempted murder of his daughter Carrie-Ann Brown and was remanded in police cells for a day pending further inquiries.

He was later charged with raping his daughter and was due to appear before Blackburn Magistrates again today.

Carrie-Ann, of Huntington Drive, Darwen, had been on a life support machine at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, since last Thursday but it was switched off at 11.55am yesterday.

Blackburn with Darwen Council social services has launched an investigation into the events which led to Carrie-Ann leaving the house she had been living in with foster carers in the Whitebirk area of Blackburn before the incident.

The pair were travelling in the southbound carriageway of the M6 south of Carlisle when the vehicle crashed between junctions 41 and 42.

They were both taken to hospital where Carrie-Ann was treated for 'life threatening injuries'.

Her father, also of Huntington Drive, suffered an arm injury as the car collided with another vehicle.

Both carriageways of the motorway were closed for some time.

Detective Inspector Neil Hunter said the life support machine was switched off after agreement with the hospital and family solicitors.

He said: "The family has been kept updated and informed by social services and family liaison officers.

"Everybody I have spoken to who is involved in this case says how tragic it is and what a tragic life this girl has had."

Carrie-Ann's family were too upset to speak about her death today.

Earlier this week her grandmother Dorothy, 70, described her as a lovely girl who would do anything to help anyone.

Her mother Tracy, 34, said: "When I had a car accident a few years ago, my daughter pulled me out of it and I really wanted to help her out of this but I couldn't."

A post mortem examination will be carried out today.
