BRENT Peters has no plans to tamper with a winning formula, writes SUZANNE GELDARD.

The Bacup Borough manager was delighted with his newly promoted side's performance as they kicked off their North West Counties Division One campaign by beating nine-men Abbey Hey 4-2.

But he has warned there will be changes if he doesn't see more of the same character and passion which inspired Bacup to recover from a 2-0 deficit.

"We started well and controlled the game for long periods at Abbey Hey but went down to two set pieces, which we didn't deserve," Peters said.

"I told the lads their mistakes would be punished, and we recovered well in the second half.

"People will see that Abbey Hey had two players sent off and think that made it easy for us, but Tommy Allen's only had one save to make after their opening goal."

He added: "The lads did really well. Our football was crisp, especially as it was our first game in a new division with prodominently the same side that we won the Second Division championship.

"I don't see the need to make changes because we have a good mix of youth and experience. But I'm a manager and a winner and if we don't carry on playing well I will make changes."

Martin Peters will come into contention for Bacup's first home game of the season against Atherton LR tonight (kick-off 7.45pm), but boss Peters is expected to field the same side that beat Abbey Hey.
