A LORRY driver was killed when his tanker plunged 20 feet down the side of the M62 near Bury, closing sections of two motorways.
It is thought the tanker fell from the motorway at junction 18 just after 9am on Wednesday while travelling eastbound. It was in collision with two cars and a wagon on landing close to Simister Island.
The lorry driver suffered fatal injuries, but the drivers of the other vehicles were believed to be unhurt.
The crash closed the M62 eastbound at junction 18 and both slip roads at junction 17 of the M60. The lorry is thought to have been carrying bitumen and was made safe by fire crews.
The crash caused long delays.
