A RADCLIFFE man, aged 35, arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of a 13-year-old girl has been released on police bail.

Detectives from Bury police swooped on the house in Unsworth Street in the early hours of Wednesday and found the teenage girl safe and well.

She had disappeared from the Rowley Regis area of Birmingham on Monday night.

A man, who has not been named, was led away in handcuffs from the house and was questioned at Smethwick police station on suspicion of child abduction.

Neighbours heard a commotion shortly after midnight and watched as police removed articles of clothing from the boot of the man's car.

It is also believed detectives seized the suspect's home computer.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police force said : "All that we can confirm is that a man from the Radcliffe area was arrested on Wednesday night on suspicion of abducting a 13-year-old girl from Rowley Regis.

"The girl was found safe and well at the same address as the man and has been reunited with her family."
