LEIGH RU began the season in fine style with an eight-try demolition of Aldwinians in the first round of the Lancashire Trophy.
Veteran winger Jim Bridge opened the scoring with his first touch after Anthony Betham had swooped on a poor kick from the visitors. Centre Danny Jones quickly followed with a try after a kick by Matthew Brown.
The visitors replied with a good try but Bridge scored again off Steve Lee, followed by Paul Wilcock and Lee. Four conversions from Wilcock completed an excellent first 40 minutes.
Aldwinians scored first in the second half but Leigh still able to run the ball from deep. Wilcock was prominent from full-back, scoring himself and setting up others for Ian Wright and Paul Wynn.
In an excellent team effort, the line jumping of Denis Bate and the powerful scrummaging of the forwards were crucial. In an outstanding back division, Danny Jones was man of the match for his workrate and enthusiasm.
