PARISHIONERS at St Cuthbert's Church are putting the final touches to their 125-year celebrations, which will take place in two weeks.

The weekend of September 19 to 21 has been set aside to mark the anniversary and will include musical entertainment and a Jacob's Join.

Organisers are hoping as many people as possible will attend the festival at some point during the weekend and meet up with present and former members of the church.

There will be displays from various organisations, a Ceilidh dance and supper will be held in St Cuthbert's School on Friday evening and performances from local ladies' choirs and Darwen Silver Band will take place on Saturday evening in the church.

The Sunday family Eucharist will be at 10.30am followed by the Jacob's Join lunch and a games time for the children.

There will also be a service for the renewal of wedding vows on Saturday.

St Cuthbert's Church was opened at Hollins Grove in January, 1878. It reopened in September 1931 after three years of re-roofing work, renovation and decorating was carried out.

Centenary celebrations were held in 1978.
