A CONVOY of around 20 caravans has moved onto the main car park at Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh and travellers have set up camp.

And just across the waters of the Flash at Aspull Common a similar number of tinkers have moved in with their lorries, vans and caravans using their camp as a base for carrying out driveway laying and paving work in the area.

This week Wigan Council representatives were seeking court eviction orders which will be served on the travellers to force them to leave the site.

A Council spokesman said: "They do not seem to be causing a litter problem or damaging property. But a lot of visitors to Pennington Flash have been turning round and leaving when they see them camped on the car park. I don't think they are being intimidating, but park visitors feel uncomfortable by their presence."
