A taxi driver who was beaten in a savage gang attack has returned home from hospital.

Mohammed Amjad, a father of three, had his jaw broken in seven places during the unprovoked attack in Little Hulton.

Mr Amjad, aged 37, of Westbourne Avenue, Bolton, is at home with his wife Rashid and children, recovering from an operation at Blackburn Royal Infirmary to wire his jaw.

But his nightmare has not ended -- he has to eat pureed food, he struggles to stay awake for long periods and he is frightened to get back into his taxi. He has also lost his bottom tooth.

He said, "I'm always tired and have to drink everything because I can't chew. It has made me frightened. I haven't thought about getting back into a taxi yet but I would be frightened to work at night again."

Mr Amjad is having regular check-ups at the Royal Bolton Hospital and says his neck and chest are still very sore.

Mr Amjad, who has been a taxi driver for five years, picked up five men and three women from Link Taxis on Bradshawgate on Sunday, August 3 at 3.30am. The group had pre-paid their fare.

He dropped off two people in Little Lever before going on to Little Hulton. They asked to be dropped off near to Peel Park when the attack happened.

A fellow taxi driver found Mr Amjad unconscious on the pavement near to the junction of Park Way and Kenyon Way.

Mr Amjad said, "I remember a man grabbing my neck and then grabbing the radio out of my hand. I managed to get out and don't remember anything after that. They didn't say a word the whole time."
