A PUBLIC consultation swung into action today as 2,500 randomly selected households in Rossendale received questionnaires.

Recipients will be asked to rate Rossendale Council in a survey that will ultimately land on the desk of Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

The 30 questions cover topics such as waste collection, complaint handling and recycling in a national bid to find out how satisfied or dissatisfied people are with local government.

Rossendale Council leader, Councillor Graham Pearson, said: "Every local authority in England and Wales is conducting these satisfaction surveys, which will give John Prescott a clear idea of how people are thinking.

"There are no cash implications in that high-performing or low-performing councils will not get smaller or larger cash grants."

Anyone with inquiries about the questionnaires can contact Gillian Hoyle on 01706 244701.
