RADCLIFFE Borough go into the weekend's clash at Frickley Athletic in buoyant mood following a haul of four points from their last two games, writes Marc Higginson.

Kevin Glendon's aim of finishing in the top 13 of the Unibond Premier League, thus ensuring a place in the new Northern Conference, is on course so far.

The Stainton Park outfit currently lie in ninth place in the league with eight points from six games and have certainly shown they can live at this level.

The 3-2 win over Stalybridge Celtic, after Borough were 2-0 down at half-time, is looking even better now that league favourites Southport came unstuck 2-1 at Bower Fold on Tuesday night.

Until then, Southport were riding high with four wins from four and hadn't conceded a goal.

This prompted Altrincham manager Graham Heathcote to sound a rallying call for the rest of the division to prevent Southport running away with the league; just as Accrington Stanley did last season.

The club's new signings have impressed both the home faithful and manager Kevin Glendon with Chris Denham, in particular looking dangerous up-front.

Things are looking bright in midfield too with Karl Marginson, Simon Carden and last weekend's hat-trick hero Gary Sampson combining grit with flair.

Only leaders Alfreton Town and Roly Howard's Marine have scored more than Radcliffe with second-placed Hucknall Town matching Borough's haul of 12 goals in six games.

However, the defence has been a long-time cause for concern for Glendon but, with the imminent arrival of Shaun Teale, things are looking better on that front.

This will be a huge relief to the manager, who was forced to play Davey Luker with Richard Landon at centre-half, in last week's draw with Bradford Park Avenue.

Boro entertain Droylsden on Tuesday following their weekend visit to Frickley and Teale could be in line to take his place in the squad for these games.

Denham should be back to put pressure on the now fit-again Neill Hardy and Banim with Tony Whealing returning from his suspension to bolster the rearguard.

Meanwhile, the newly formed Borough youth team crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at home to Altrincham last Thursday.

The youngsters fought back from 2-0 down to force the tie into extra-time but the visitors superior experience and fitness told as the Robins netted twice in extra-time to leave Boro's third goal of the game a late consolation.

The youth team put up an excellent show and impressed the watching Glendon. They play Partington Village reserves away in their next game. Kick-off is 2pm.

RADCLIFFE Borough's Supporters Club are holding their September meeting tonight. Various subjects will be open to discussion, ranging from away travel to forthcoming events.

Boro newcomers Chris Denham and Karl Marginson will also be in attendance to answer questions towards the end of proceedings. Membership of the Supporters Club is free and everyone is welcome to come down to Stainton Park for a Boro discussion and a pint. The action begins at 7.30pm.
