ROSSENDALE United bounced back from their mauling at Witton Albion to produce a battling display and earn a point against a well-organised Guiseley side.

Once again team selection was hampered by illness and injury, Russ Brierley having to drop to the bench and Chris Fitzsimmons still missing after a knock picked up at Goole.

The first half belonged largely to the visitors. David Henry hit the bar early on and Dale keeper Matt Taylor performed heroics to stop Andrew Shuttleworth's header.

Shuttleworth then missed a sitter at the back post, heading over from eight yards, so there was little surprise when Henry opened the scoring from close range on the half-hour.

Dale rallied before half-time, Wes Kinney going close with a diving header. Scott Jackson should then have doubled the visitors' lead before the break, but he volleyed over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

It was a different story in the second half as Dale woke up and put the visitors under pressure from the off.

Doni Clarke was a constant menace on the left wing, and with Kinney and Lee Cooper giving the Guiseley defence plenty of problems it was only a matter of time before the scores were level.

Lee Badrock had already missed two good chances before Kinney equalised with a shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area on the hour.

The visitors threatened occasionally on the break but Taylor was in inspired form, tipping Henry's volley wide and denying Jackson with another superb save.

Russ Brierley came on for the final 15 minutes and nearly won the game with a shot from the edge of the box ,which drifted just over the bar.

Dave Gamble's free kick in injury time only needed a touch as it flew across the six-yard box, but on the balance of play both sides just about deserved a point.
