GOVERNMENT social services minister Stephen Ladyman dropped into a Leigh cafe to see for himself examples of Wigan Council's highly regarded services for adults with learning difficulties.
Mr Ladyman had lunch with workers employed at Goodbody's Cafe in King Street, on Tuesday to discuss with them their experience of local social services.
He moved on to visit two other pioneering schemes, the Orchards Gardening Project at the Dorset Road Community Centre, Atherton, and the Independent Advocacy Services in Church Street, Leigh.
The council's link member for social care, Cllr David Kelly, said: "It is rewarding to know that our efforts to focus our work on the person and not in the service is being recognised nationally."
