EWOOD new-boy Barry Ferguson today set his sights on a place in the Champions League as he prepares to launch his Blackburn career.

Ferguson was unveiled to the media at a special Press conference this morning following his £6.5 million move from Rangers.

And the Scotland skipper immediately underlined his lofty ambitions by charting a course for the top four.

"I think we can possibly get into the Champions League. The team did well last season in getting into the UEFA Cup so I don't see why we can't go further than that," said the 25-year-old.

"If you look about, there's a lot of quality players here so there's every chance we can do it."

Ferguson admitted it was a big wrench to leave Rangers after spending 15 years with the Scottish champions.

But he's relishing the chance to prove himself at Rovers where the competition for midfield places is sure to be fierce given the quality of recent signings such as Dino Baggio, Brett Emerton and Steven Reid.

"The reason I stayed at Rangers so long was I got made captain at the age of 22 and that was a big thing for me after growing up as a Rangers supporter," said Ferguson.

"But then I felt the time was right for me to come down here.

"It had been in the back of my mind for quite a while.

"I decided to stay last season and then when we won the three trophies I sat down at the end of the season and decided it was maybe time to move on.

"Now I'm looking forward to proving myself at a new club.

"Down here I'm going to have to fight for my place and that's a good thing.

"There's seven or eight quality midfielders here, whereas up at Rangers you were always going to be playing week in, week out.

"I've not spoken to the gaffer about what role he wants me to play as yet but I'd be happy to play anywhere."

Souness has not revealed whether Ferguson will start against Liverpool tomorrow or have to settle for a place on the bench.

But he looks certain to feature at some point and he's relishing the prospect of testing himself against the likes of Steven Gerrard.

"That's what I've come down here for -- to play against teams like Liverpool and Manchester United," said Ferguson, who was the subject of a transfer enquiry from Gerard Houllier in the last 12 months.

"No disrespect to Scottish football, but it's a bit different to playing the likes of Motherwell and Dunfermline.

"There's some good players in Scotland but down here there's some world class players.

"I've come down to England so I can play against guys like Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira.

"It's a challenge for me to see how I can do against people like them."
