PAINSTAKING work spanning 6,000 hours has been carried out on the Baroque plasterwork in Lancasters 18th century Music Room - ready for when it opens its doors to the public this weekend.

As part of 'Heritage Open Days', which are being organised nationwide by the Civic Trust, the building is throwing open its doors for visitors to admire the features inside and learn more about its history.

Building preservation charity The Landmark Trust bought and demolished adjacent properties to the building when it was in need of attention, enabling builders to gain access.

The ground floor was turned into a shop and in front, with the citys help, a pedestrian square was created.

The plasterwork of the impressive Music Room, features the muses on the walls while a fruit goddess with a torch presides over the ceiling.

The flat and terrace above offer views over Lancaster.

Anyone can look around on the open days on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14, between midday and 4pm.

An information leaflet will be available explaining the buildings history and restoration.
