AS well as being being one of our columnists and the owner of Blackburn pubs and clubs, Margo Grimshaw is also an an eager collector of pictures and ephemera from yesteryear and she wonders whether readers can tell her more about this old photograph which she came across.
As their self-made sign says, this group of old-time dudes snapped on a camping jaunt called themselves 'The 10 Blackburn Mashers.'
And, clearly, they lived up to the name -- which, though now seldom heard, was used to describe fashionable and style-conscious fellows, particularly those of the Edwardian era to which these lads evidently belong. For with with stiff collars, fancy ties and walking canes they are indeed dandy.
But Margo wonders, who, where and when? The only real clue to their identity are the words "Thwaites Brewery 'Mashers'" pencilled on the back of the photograph -- which she intends to donate to the old-established Blackburn brewers' museum. Can readers reveal more?
