BLACKPOOL FC hope to have a new face within the next few weeks after a cryptic announcement from boss, Steve McMahon.

But two popular old boys will not be returning to Bloomfield Road in the near future -- despite the manager's best efforts!

McMahon told a fans' forum on Monday that the club had lined up a move for a suspended player who would not be able to make his debut until after the game with Birmingham on September 23.

The player is a left-sided midfielder, a position McMahon believes is crucial to his side's success.

McMahon admits he is not getting anywhere in his bid for Everton defender, Peter Clarke. The Toffees are still refusing to agree to a loan deal for the England under-21 defender, but the club will consider making an approach when Clarke reaches the end of his contract next summer.

Meanwhile, McMahon has asked about the possibility of bringing Brett Ormerod back to Bloomfield Road after Southampton signed England striker, Kevin Phillips. However, Saints boss Gordon Strachan says Ormerod is still in his plans and a move is a definite no-go.

Meanwhile, McMahon also used the fans forum to dismiss gossip about players' drinking habits -- and invited fans to work as his 'eye and ears' in ensuring that players stick to a ban on going out in the days leading up to matches.

Blackpool face Bournemouth on Saturday in a clash which is likely to see Bloomfield Road's new temporary East stand pushed into service for the first time.

The game may also see a return for the recovering Keith Southern. The tough-tackling midfielder has yet to feature this season because of a long-term knee injury, but played and scored in a behind closed doors victory against Preston at Deepdale last week. However, McMahon admitted this week that John Murphy was still unfit and unable to return to first team action.

Seasiders director, Peter Smith, has stepped down from the board after three years at Bloomfield Road.

Mr Smith, described as an instrumental figure behind the scenes at Bloomfield Road, say he no long has the time to fulfil his duties at Blackpool FC due to increase business commitments.

Chairman, Karl Oyston, said: "Peter has been a great help during a very difficult transitional period with the club. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future."
