A FLEETWOOD mum who died after being sent home from hospital twice in two days was suffering from blood poisoning, a Blackpool coroner's court heard.

Mother-of-one Jo-Ann Mason of Styan Street, Fleetwood, was admitted to Blackpool Victoria Hospital on March 15 last year complaining of pain in her right side.

The 35-year-old sales assistant, normally 'fit and healthy', also had bruising and following an examination and X-ray she was thought to have a partially dislocated shoulder -- possibly linked with a recent gym visit -- and was discharged and asked to return the following Monday.

But the pain became severe so she returned to hospital the following day instead. Following an examination by a different doctor she was thought to be suffering a gym-related soft tissue injury and was again discharged, the court heard.

Following a collapse, she was rushed by ambulance later that day to hospital for the third time.

She was now a 'completely different person' the inquest heard.

"She was desperately ill and tragically she was beyond help," Blackpool and Fylde deputy coroner Anne Hind said in her summary. Miss Mason died in the hospital's intensive care unit at 12.15am on March 17. An independent consultant pathologist who conducted a post mortem examination gave the cause of death as group A streptococcal septicaemia -- blood poisoning.

After hearing evidence from hospital doctors and nurses, Miss Mason's partner, Dieter Bramble, and her mother, Annette Hartley, the deputy coroner recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.

Jo-Ann's mother, said she intended to pursue action against the hospital.
