A PARTNERSHIP between United Utilities and Thorn Cross Young Offenders Institute, in Warrington, is set to help troubled teens get jobs.
The firm has taken on a young offender to train as a mechanic at its transport workshop in Whitebirk, Blackburn.
The 19-year-old will be working for six months on a range of company vehicles, from small vans to Land Rovers and tankers.
Graham Davies, United Utilities fleet maintenance manager, said: "This is our second placement, the first has been so successful that we decided to give more young offenders the same opportunity."
United Utilities is also providing Thorn Cross with vehicles for prisoners to work on in its own mechanics workshop, preparing the vehicles for auction.
The project aims to develop partnerships with employers, creating further opportunities for offenders to secure work placements."
