BOSSES at British Telecom met have with the Country Landowners Association (CLA) to work out how to improve broadband facilities in rural areas.

The talks took place via audioconference, allowing delegates to participate without leaving their desks - showing the benefits communications technology can bring to rural communities.

The CLA wants more broadband access in areas like the Ribble Valley to boost businesses.

The CLA's regional director, Douglas Chalmers, said he was pleased with BT's work and urged people to use broadband if available.

He said: "We have campaigned hard for availability, but unless people actually use it the benefits to rural communities will not be realised.

"We will certainly do our part in helping to promote the real benefits that rural businesses and communities can gain from these exciting developments."

The CLA said further meetings with BT are planned.
