A MOTHER hopes to get extra funding to continue a successful book club scheme.
Rehana Ali began the scheme six months ago with cash from the Reading Families Millennium Award.
Funding has now ended so she is asking Sure Start, a government initiative which provides resources to improve quality of life for toddlers and their families.
Pleasure Reading Scheme began when Rehana, 28, of Sycamore Close, Blackburn, was a member of a book scheme at Bangor Street Community Centre.
With a grant of £2,500 she bought books from classics to contemporary fiction to take to mums and toddler groups to encourage family reading.
She said: "The idea is for kids to see books as a treat and something that is fun so that by the time they get to school they love books."
The grant also paid for a creche facility so mothers could relax knowing their youngsters were in safe hands nearby.
Community centres which benefited from the scheme are Seven Trees, Bangor Street, Daisyfield and Little Harwood.
