DISABLED people in Burnley will receive greater financial help this year after it was announced grants will more than double.
This year £1,019,000 will be available to spend on disabled facilities grants compared to £425,000 in 2003/04.
The Government funding will be used to help adapt homes in the town so disabled people can live in them, after the council's executive approved the motion last Tuesday.
David Hodgson, the council's housing renewal manager, welcomed the news and said the money would fund projects like installing stairlifts or property extensions which can cost £25,000.
He said: "It means we can make a real impact on our waiting list and considerably reduce the waiting time for a grant.
"This will also allow the council to continue its policy of providing an effective service to disabled and vulnerable people in the community, enabling them to remain independent in their own home."
