A CHARITY night will raise money for Cloughfold Recreation Action Group next month.

Organisers will be hoping entertainment from the Lomax Brothers and Jimmy Divine will draw the crowds. The recreation group are hoping to transform an area of open space if planning permission is granted at Thursday night's development control meeting.

The work will include a children's play area, rock gardens, an amphitheatre for teaching and performances with seating, allotment gardens for schools, as well as barbecue and picnic areas.

Volunteer Christine Lomax will head the drive to develop the land following concerns the site may be lost if the council chose to sell it for development.

They estimated it will cost £2,100 for annual maintenance to be covered by fundraising.

The Doorstep Green project, which has received £3,500 from the New Opportunities Fund and the Countryside Commission, aims to bid for around £100,000 if the plans are given the green-light.

The event is at Cloughfold Conservative Club on June 3 from 7pm.
