THE final proposals from the boundary committee for the future of local government in Lancashire were announced this week.
Residents in Preston and South Ribble will be faced with two options when the issue is put to a vote, expected to be later this year, at the same time as a referendum for an elected regional assembly.
Option A would see Preston and South Ribble councils scrapped and their functions transferred to a new single unitary authority covering most of Lancashire, called 'Lancashire Council'.
Option B would see Preston and South Ribble councils merge with Chorley Borough Council, under the title of 'Central Lancashire Council', taking over the responsibilities of the county council.
In the event of a 'no' vote for a regional assembly, there will be no local government restructuring.
